Dreaming BIG with: Cory Daigle

I believe that, everyday, there is someone who makes a positive impact on you. Sit there, and think about it. The person who impacted you might be a complete stranger, but they said or did something that changed the way you felt, gave you a different perspective, or maybe even changed the way you act. Start looking at all the positive that surrounds you, and you’ll start to notice that that there is, at least one person everyday who has made a positive impact on your life.

Let’s start with someone who has impacted me over a decade ago. His name is Cory Daigle. Cory was my elementary school gym teacher from grade 6 to grade 8. A very dependable teacher to say the least. You see, after my parents separated it was very difficult to trust another adult. I finally decided to voice what was going on, and explained to Cory my current situation. Although the memory was a little over ten years ago I remember him telling me that he understands. He understood that things won’t be easy for the next little while, they may get a little tougher, but he told me that he would always be there if I ever needed to talk. You see, he never told me that “everything was going to be alright”, because that would have been a lie. He simply gave me the truth, and told me that he would be there for me, he’d “show up”.

When I look back at that moment, I realize that there was an important lesson to be looked at and appreciated. Even though I have not spoken to Cory in over 8 years until recently where I asked him if I could write this blog about him, I’ve learned that he didn’t need to say that he was going to be there for me. He also could have told me that everything was going to be alright, but he didn’t. The impact that was made was instilling the value of trust.

In my case, a lot of trust was lost after the separation of my parents. When something is lost, something equivalent or greater is gained, as long as you aren’t blinded from what was taken away from you. Start looking at the positive that surrounds you. Although I have not spoken to Cory since 2008, I can still take that moment in time and appreciate the valuable lesson he thought me.
